Supreme Pays Ode to Graffiti Artist Rammellzee With New Collection

Elusive graffiti artist Rammellzee was a singular figure in the early hip hop and graffiti scene. Born in Queens, New York, the artist began his prolific career graffiting the A train during the 1970s while still a teenager. In the years that followed, Rammellzee developed his definitive gothic-futurist style – a thorny lettering which harks back to the scribes of 14th-century monks – going on to become one of the medium’s foremost figures, collaborating with the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jim Jarmusch and Charlie Ahearn. Supreme has collaborated with the estate of Rammellzee on a new collection, paying tribute to the late artist’s neon-splattered paintings with a series of streetwear designs, including sweatshirts, hoodies, trackpants, T-shirts and GORE-TEX pieces. As global shutdown ensues amid the spread of coronavirus, the brand debuts the collection exclusively online.
