Kim Jones Is Curating His Favourite Artworks for a Special Sotheby’s Sale
- TextOrla Brennan
Yesterday, Sotheby’s announced that artistic director of Dior Men Kim Jones is guest curator of its next Contemporary Curated sale, which is taking place on March 6. As curator, Jones has hand selected his favourite works from the hundreds of lots on offer, opting for pieces by the likes of Cindy Sherman, David Hockney, Ed Ruscha, Nick Cave, Kerry James Marshall and Richard Prince. The Sotheby’s curation marks another meaningful partnership for Jones, who since the start of his tenure at Dior has teamed up with artists such as KAWS, Raymond Pettibon and Daniel Arsham, among others. “For me, collaborating with artists is important, especially at Christian Dior, because Christian Dior was a gallerist for 10 years before he was a couturier,” Jones says. “Both fashion and art are within culture, and I draw inspiration from both. It’s an organic relationship for me.”
Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated sale is open for public viewing in New York on February 28, 2020 with the sale taking place March 6, 2020.
