Founding Minimalist Sculptor Robert Morris Has Died at Age 87
- TextHannah Tindle
Pioneering and controversial artist Robert Morris – who helped to found the minimilist art movement in the 1960s alongside Donald Judd – passed away yesterday from pneumonia at the age of 87. During his half-century career, Morris produced works that spanned across sculpture, performance and land art, helping to define the language of conceptual art we know today. Some of his works are permanently housed at London’s Tate Modern, including his felt wall hangings and mirrored cubes. “Simplicity of shape does not necessarily equate with simplicity of experience,” he once said.
