AV Vattev’s Collection Imagines a Mick Jagger and Georgia O’Keeffe Collab
- TextOrla Brennan
What would a collaboration between Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and mother of American Modernism Georgia O’Keeffe look like? Thanks to emerging menswear designer and Saint Laurent Homme-alumnus Antonio Vattev, we don’t have to wonder any longer. Under his namesake label AV Vattev, the Central Saint Martins graduate’s Autumn/Winter 2020 collection imagines an impossible collaboration between the two artistic legends, mining their respective “strong vision, distinct personal style and unapologetic point of view”. The collection fuses elements of Jagger’s irreverent personal style with patterns and textiles inspired by O’Keeffe’s famous flower paintings, using techniques and fabrics from Vattev’s native Bulgaria. The result is distinctly modern: reconstructed knitwear, patchwork O’Keeffe-esque florals, streetwear elements and off-kilter tailoring. Elsewhere, leather, cinched waists, scoop necks and shearling finishings are reminiscent of Jagger’s rebellious style circa the 1970s. Lensed by Pablo di Prima and styled by Ibrahim Kamara, the lookbook captures the spirit of the collection, which Vattev describes as “a celebration of youth, arts, music and traditions”.
